Google and Intel Corp. executives on June 12 launched an industry initiative to promote and set goals for energy efficiency in computing in order to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to global warming.
Among the group's 40 supporters are high-tech heavyweights Dell, eBay, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, IBM and NEC. Also joining the effort are educational institutions, such as MIT; environmental groups; and government agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
