A LONG-HELD belief that Britain's oil and gas industry is populated by an ageing, male-dominated workforce has been dismissed by a study published today.
Research by Oil and Gas UK, the industry's new trade body, found that more women and increasing numbers of young people are pursuing careers in the industry, on and off shore.
Data supplied to an internet-based system used by companies to keep track of people offshore has revealed that the average age of a North Sea worker is 41 - the same as the expected average age for any workforce aged between 20 and 60 years. The study also found that 1,800 women travelled offshore to work last year.
